    Join Pedestrians Movement Today

Citizens of Bangalore have finally decided to start a Pedestrains movements which has been one of the main issue in the city with no footpath on the roads and widening program going on.

With Government looking for road widening programs, without considering the footpath issue for the pedestrians which is missing on most of the roads in Bengaluru.

Either these footpaths are used by two wheelers to reach to the front at the single junction without considering if a people are working on their or not.

The Event will start on Monday at 5:30 pm from the following places : Join the movement

Outside Sankey Tank Gate (Malleshwaram Side)

    Bhashyam Circle (Sadashivnagar).

Bellary Raod (after Kaveri Theatre, Airforce Station, Hebbal, after Mekhri Circle underpass).

Lingarajapuram (at flyover near ST Charles School).

    The team is planning:

Go to a few major traffic junction and try to cross the roads and track the time taken to cross the roads.

What Bangalore Citizens are looking for

Reduce the number of private vehicles and educate people to make use of the public transport with Government plying more buses in the respective areas. Car pooling should be considered.

Penalties on people who drive their vehicle on footpath.

Remove subways and skywalks, as old citizens will not be able to take them due to health issues. Instead introduce Pedestrian signal at regular intervals on all the roads.

Widening the footpaths for the citizens then for vehicles.

The Pedestrians movements is a good initiation by MBR, a small step is always a good start. I would suggest that Subways and Skywalks also exists along with signals at regular distance, since the majority of users are young/middle aged can still use it. Few municipals can introduce Escalator type skywalks if they have sponsor and money. First pedestrians should know where to walk. Lots of Jay walking brings unpredictability to the Drivers, Should use crossing to cross the road instead of crossing @ any desired point in the road. Walking facing the Road Traffic is would also lessen accidents which are avoidable. Pedestrians do not even follow the basic Look left, right and left again before crossing. Another major contributor for accidents is mobiles, Talk while you walk, it looks good for advertisement but many lose their near/dear one because of follow the same. Life is too short to mess around, People have to realize that little mistakes not only affects their life but all involved in the accidents. The aftermath is irreparable and leaves a big scar in life of all involved and remains for a very longtime. Hope the drive brings a change in attitude for both pedestrians and drivers. All the Best to Team MBR.
