Bangalore International Airport is going to get a new name. The state government has decided to rename the Bengaluru International Airport and, in all probability, it'll be called the Kempegowda International Airport after Bangalore's legendary founder.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa gave hint early this year that he will like to name certain monuments on the name of the person who had service for Karnataka such as Sir M Visvesvaraya, Mysore warrior Tipu Sultan besides B R Ambedkar are being considered, but Kempegowda is the front-runner, sources said.
When the cabinet meets next week, the renaming will be finalized. After this, the government has to seek the approval of the Union civil aviation ministry as the airport is a joint venture of the Centre, state government and a private consortium.

Hi,
Earlier too the city was named as Bangalore and later changed to Bengaluru. The name of the International Airport was also coined as Bengaluru International Airport. So I think the day is not far off to see such change in the name of the Airport.
Best regards, Mala.
